Sara Paxton's new movie is a spoof of movies like Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Fantastic Four and the rest of them.

She’s played a fish with breasts and now she’s ready to bust your gut.

Sara Paxton was the mermaid in the tween epic Aquamarine. Look for her (sans fin) later this month in the lead role in Dimension Films action-movie spoof Superhero Movie alongside Christopher McDonald, Pam Anderson, Tracy Morgan, Regina Hall, Leslie Nielson, Drake Bell, Jeffrey Tambor, and Brent Spiner.

She said the comedy will be cut from the same cloth as the Scary Movie franchise, Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies. It’s a sartorial take on the likes of Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Fantastic Four and the rest of them. The movie focuses on a high school loser (what else?) who is bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly and develops super strength and armored skin.

Paxton plays a parody of Peter Parker’s main squeeze. She could definitely be described as “easy on the eyes” with her slender build and bright blue eyes, but the 19-year-old has developed a bit of a reputation as squeaky clean. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, yet we get the sense that she wouldn’t mind breaking that mould a bit so she can show us what she’s capable of doing as a performer. In addition to acting, Paxton is also a singer who can also be heard on the soundtracks several of her movies.

She talked to Savvy about where she wants her journey to take her next…

Savvy: You’re here to promote your movie Superhero Movie. Sell us…

Sara Paxton: Basically, it’s a parody of the Spider-Man films and I play the Mary Jane character. It is a grown-up comedy that should be very popular.

Savvy: What kind of role would you pen for yourself?

Paxton: I admire Goldie Hawn and Reese Witherspoon, so working with either of them would be a dream of mine. I’d also love to make a romantic comedy like Roman Holiday.

Savvy: You did a TV movie about binge drinking last year. Are you wanting to do more grown up material?

Paxton: I am wanting that. I love comedy and don’t regret any of the work I’ve done, but I am definitely ready for something a little more challenging. I am ready to do roles that are more dramatic. I have to be careful that people don’t get the idea I’m not capable of doing roles that are more challenging.

Savvy: Would you do something to shock audiences so they see you in a different light? Like Charlize Theron making herself look ugly to win an Oscar?

Paxton: I would totally do the Charlize thing. I have no problem getting dirty or ugly or even cutting off all of my hair.

Savvy: Are you really one of the voices on SpongeBob SquarePants?

Paxton: I’m in the opening theme song. It sounds like a lot of kids singing, but it was actually just me recorded several times saying stuff like, “Aye, Aye, Captain!” (laughs)

Savvy: My kid makes me watch that every day, so I hear that damn song in my sleep. Do you feel pressure to look beautiful all of the time?

Paxton: I think every girl has those feelings, regardless of whether she’s a celebrity or not, but when you are in the spotlight it gets magnified. I’m naturally thin and I’m actually trying to gain weight right now. I’m going to the gym and drinking protein shakes trying to put on a few pounds so people don’t think I’m emaciated. I’m only 19, and I know that I won’t always be as naturally thin. I’ve stopped looking at the magazines where literally every page there’s something to make you feel ugly, fat and feel as if your boyfriend is cheating on you. (Laughs)

Savvy: What are you like off-screen?

Paxton: I’m just a normal person. I went to a regular high school and enjoy hanging out with my friends and going to the movies, pretty much the same things as everyone else. I don’t really hang out with celebrities.

Savvy: That might explain how you avoid humiliating yourself like Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton.

Paxton: I think anybody, if they have cameras on them 24/7, would get caught doing some pretty embarrassing things.

Savvy: Some of us don’t even need cameras around!

Paxton: I’m very close to my family and wouldn’t want to embarrass them.

Savvy: Such a good girl. Tell us about your music.

Paxton: I’m writing songs, talking to the producer and basically working out the direction for a new album. My first album was sort of acoustic/guitar/pop-rock, but my new one will be a little more dance-oriented, sort of a cross between Kylie Minogue and Gwen Stefani.

Savvy: Sometimes it seems like an actor wants to sing and vice versa out of vanity rather than actual ability, but you’re actually pretty good.

Paxton: Thanks. There will always be critics of everything. I’m lucky I’ve had the opportunity to both act and sing. I write my own music. I love recording, and I hope other people enjoy listening to my music.

Savvy: You got into show business when you were six years old doing commercials, right?

Paxton: I really didn’t work that much as a child. I went to a normal elementary school and a normal high school. Some kids have dance class or sports practice after school every day, but for me it was going to auditions instead. I really didn’t miss anything that typical kids get to do. I owe so much to my parents for helping me get to auditions and work.

Savvy: Any brush-with-greatness stories?

Paxton: I was really young when I did the movie Liar Liar. I was eight-years-old playing a child at the school and at a party, but I remember Jim Carrey being really nice and funny on the set. One day, I tapped him on the shoulder in line at the craft services table and called him “Mr. Carrey.” He remarked on how polite I was and let me cut in line. That was the last time I saw him. (Laughs)

Savvy: And you played the wicked witch in Sydney White, which was a modern retelling of Snow White.

Paxton: Right. That movie was a lot of fun to make because I was working with a lot of people who were my same age in Florida. That was my first time I played a character who is my age or older.

Savvy: Is it more fun playing the villain?

Paxton: It IS fun to step out of the box, but having done so many films for a younger audience, I felt guilty playing the bad girl. I didn’t want anyone on the set to think I was actually like that in real life, so I went out of my way to be nice to everyone.

Savvy: You worked with Emma Roberts, Jo Jo and Arielle Kebbel in Aquamarine. Was there a feeling on that set that we were seeing a showcase of the next generation of star actresses?

Paxton: Yes, I think so because they are all so talented. We lived together for four months in Australia while filming. Emma’s family and my family really liked each other and our dads have become best friends. Emma lives down the street from my parents now, so it’s easy to keep in touch.

Savvy: Next time you see her Aunt Julia, tell her I’m sorry it didn’t work out between us! Thanks for your time. You’re a very beautiful and talented young woman.

Paxton: Thank you! Be sure to check out the new movie.
