Mariah ‘Touch My Body’ Carey made a startling claim this week, one that got the tabloids in a tizzy. Yes, the singer who is best known for her vocal gymnastics performed in her preferred costumes of either nothing but a small black lycra dress; hot pants and a bra, or pretty much nothing at all, Carey has caused quite a crescendo when she compared herself to squeaky-clean character, played by the plum in mouth, undisputed queen of Broadway, Julie Andrews. 

“I'm Mary Poppins,” Mariah told Allure magazine. “I'm what the buttoned-up girls are supposed to be."

Now I know what you are thinking: Mariah may seem like a lady who likes to live it large compared to Mary Poppins but it would seem she thinks deep down she is just like 19th Century nursery rhyme singing, carpet-bag holding character… and who can blame her? They have a lot in common right?

These reports leave us with two simple questions:

1.    Is she delusional?
2.    Has she actually seen the movie?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious indeed.

But then maybe the world has got it all wrong. Maybe Mariah Poppins’ last album The Emancipation of Mimi was meant to be for children?  

Another tabloid reports that 37 year-old Mariah says her “on-stage persona is all an act, and she’s actually a good girl who just happens to make a living from showing a lot of cleavage and posing for mens’ mags.”

Yes, that sounds just like Mary Poppins does it not?

And when you think back to Mary Poppins’ relationship with Mr Banks in the movie (Mr Banks being the uptight investment banker who struggled to look after his children) one could compare this to her brief dalliance with Eminem then? Or not.  Gees, this being Marry Poppins thing really does give you a fair bit of creative license…

Just to be sure that she sealed her fate as Miss Poppins in the eyes of the media Mariah reportedly through in a big word, which was very superkaliefrentilioexpalidous-eque of her: 

"It's a dichotomy, I understand. I understand that people think I'm a ditzy moron."   Which was a nice try – but the thing is nobody thought Mary Poppins was a ditz! So Mariah, could you please drop your parasol and do Savvy a favour?  Leave Mary Poppin’s out of The Emancipation of Mimi!
