In Nike's latest promotion they have pulled together a play list of tunes created by some of the world’s most powerful athletes including the likes of Lance Armstrong, Serena Williams, and Kara Goucher, that aims to teach amateurs to get their exercise mojo through motivating music.
So, if you fancy learning how seven-time Tour de France winner Mr Lance ‘All About The Bike’ Armstrong through any challenges he faces when he is not on a bike, but running, then you can find out by grabbing the Nike Sport Coaching Mix. Same goes for tennis freaks that want to pump up the jam with Serena Williams.
According to a Nike spokesperson, the 40-minute work-out coaches runners of all races, from the professional to the ‘weekend warriors’, through a series of four high-speed intervals designed to improve strength, speed and ability to go the distance.
They then joined with Interscope Records to produce the mix features with hits from the labels top artists. These include Weezer, The Feeling and Wolfmother. So downloading one basically gives you the chance to listen to a mixed tape from your favourite sports star.
With the gradual extinction of the mixed tape generation, and the rapid rise of the ipod set, there are some a couple of points about the mixed tape that young ‘uns might need to be reminded of:
1. If you don’t like the person who gave you the tape, you won’t like it. So, for example if you don’t like Kara Goucher, don’t expect to make the Olympics on her mix. Chances are you’ll opt for a serious session of daytime tele rather than sweating it up to her selection.
2. Bad tracks can make or break you – so select your songs wisely. Not to pick on Mr Armstrong, but Maroon Five as track #1, no matter how many times you’ve won the Tour De France or have beaten cancer, may prove for most folk to be an absolute deal breaker.
3. Prepare yourself for a power session. Just as some people won’t get out of the car until their favourite song is finished, nor will you get off the treadmill until the last track is laid to rest. Look on the bright side though – your aversion to exercise will most certainly be cured.
