See the photos...
Brooke Banx smashes expectations.
When I saw her images and realized she had won Savvy’s “Is She Hot?” contest, I assumed I might be in for a hard time. After all, any woman as ravishing as the one in front of me could afford to be conceited or give off a diva attitude. With her piercing blue eyes and her lips formed into a pout, she looked like a woman who eats men for breakfast. When she showed up for her photo shoot with Rick Hughes, I braced myself for a clash of personalities.
It never happened. As it turns out, Brooke the temptress, beneath the makeup, is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
“I get that a lot, people surprised when they meet me,” she admitted. “When people look at my pictures, they usually think I’m not the nicest girl in the world. But when they get to know me, they realize I’m nothing like the person in my pictures. That goes for people I’ve dated also. They say ‘You’re nothing like your pictures.’”
She spends hours posing in skimpy outfits on what seems like the coldest day of the year, but she doesn’t complain once. She even puts on two more bikinis after we’ve gotten more than enough images for her Savvy shoot.
In the middle of a conversation about refugees from the Gulf Coast, Brooke matter-of-factly tells us a story about something that happened while she was volunteering for the Red Cross.
Rick, the photographer, and I look at each other in disbelief. Rick jokes, “Do you have a sister?”
Savvy: I have to admit, I am relieved you aren’t acting like some narcissistic beauty queen.
Brooke: I get that a lot. I think my pictures give people a certain idea of who I am.
Savvy: How do you think your pictures come across?
Brooke: I think I come across as strong and maybe not so nice. Different from who I actually am.
Savvy: The cold-hearted bitch who stomps people with her stilettos. But you don’t seem so one-dimensional now that I’m sitting here with you.
Brooke: In real life, I am a bit shy. I am usually quiet when I first meet someone so that may reinforce the preconceived notion.
Savvy: I know readers can’t see this, but right now we’re shooting at The House, a really cool club at Underground Atlanta. You’re wearing black lace up boots and a black bustier with really big hair, standing against a wall painted with graffiti. If I just saw you like this walking down the street, I would probably run but trip over my tongue.
Brooke: This is what the “Bad Brooke” wears, how people normally see me in pictures online. The real Brooke would not go out like this.
Savvy: Has the bad Brooke ever been sinful?
Brooke: There are a few times I can think of… but I don’t think I can talk about them here. (Laughs)
Savvy: What’s the most fun the real Brooke’s ever had?
Brooke: (Laughs) I don’t think I can talk about that one either.
Savvy: Hmmm. So the good Brooke is no angel either.
Brooke: I have so many fun stories, but I can’t think of which would be the funniest right now.
Savvy: With this “good” and “bad” talk, do you ever feel like you have an identity crisis?
Brooke: I’ll tell you what my identity crisis is at the moment. There are people copying my photos and going on web sites pretending to be me. There are three different fake Myspace profiles and then my real one.
Savvy: What assholes. Why do people have to do that crap?
Brooke: On one of them, I’m supposedly telling some girl “Yes, my eyes are really green, bitch!” and the others also have me saying things I wouldn’t say.
Savvy: That could be why people expect you to be mean when they meet you. (Laughs)
Brooke: Thanks to everyone who notified me of the fake profiles.
Savvy: I guess it’s a compliment that people want to imitate you, even though it kind of sucks for someone to hijack your identity. It’s probably some over-the-hill fatso wannabe who hates you because you’re beautiful. It’s definitely sobering to think that the celebrity you think you are talking could just be some loser with too much time on his hands.
Brooke: It is aggravating. But my real profile is “brookebanx”.
Savvy: So tell me more about yourself, the real Brooke.
Brooke: I’m friendly, honest, goal-oriented, energetic, down to earth, loyal, trustworthy, and bubbly.
Savvy: But not nearly as bubbly as I expected, as in ditzy. I can tell there’s something going on upstairs, which isn’t always the case with a large-breasted blonde bombshell.
Brooke: I have a lot of ambition, a lot of drive. I’m a college student. I’m trying to get my Masters in Business Administration. A business degree is beneficial no matter what. I’m not sure exactly where I will take that, but we’ll see. I want to continue my modeling career and see what happens.
Savvy: Are you going to L.A. and try the acting thing?
Brooke: I’d like to try acting.
Savvy: You’ve definitely shown an ability to transform yourself. Do you have a Plan B if those dreams don’t work out?
Brooke: I love modeling because I get to travel to cool places and meet interesting people, but modeling isn’t the whole world to me.
Savvy: What kind of stuff do you think is important?
Brooke: In my free time, I’m involved in charities that work to protect animals.
Savvy: What were you like as a kid? Always this hot?
Brooke: I felt awkward in junior high, but then I think everyone does. I was born on July 5th in Texas. My parents always told me that the fireworks for the 4th of July were for my birthday. (Laughs) I was involved in Girl Scouts, church choir, ballet and tap dancing, ice-skating and gymnastics.
Savvy: Gymnastics! I'm visualizing you in tights doing the splits.
Brooke: I've also won awards in horseback riding competitions and swimming competitions.
Savvy: That must be fun having fireworks for your birthday.
Brooke: There is rarely a dull moment in the lives of July 5th people. I read this thing about my birthday. It says, “Our motto: taste test and move on. Which means try one experience in life, get bored with it and then try a new one immediately following. Those born on July 5th love the variety and sparkle of life, unusual and out of the way people and panoramas. We’re in almost constant and rapid motion. July 5th people are charming enough to capture the hearts of those around them. July 5th people not only recognize opportunities but go for them. They are adept at the art of persuasion. Charismatic and powerful, but not always well grounded, they can sweep others away in the enthusiasm they generate. Whatever hard knocks or pitfalls those born on July 5th encounter, they usually recover quickly. July 5th people change their minds and physical surroundings with great regularity. The vivid, exciting nature of those born on this day generates many interesting opportunities for friends and colleagues who come into contact with them.”
Savvy: Wow, that sounds pretty accurate.
Brooke: I thought so. I brought that with me so you could use it in my story.
Savvy: What a sweetheart! (Laughs) Where do you live in Texas?
Brooke: I was born in Houston but moved to Austin before I started school. I’ve lived in Austin most of my life, but after graduating from high school, I moved to California. I now live in Austin, but I travel all over the United States.
Savvy: Is it true what they say about Texas? Is everything bigger?
Brooke: Everything is bigger and better in Texas. It must be something in the water.
Savvy: Looks like the bras are definitely bigger. (Laughs) I hear Austin is a kick-ass music town.
Brooke: Austin is a great city! It is incredibly laid back and fun. Austin is the live music capital of the world and there is always something to do.
Savvy: Back to your boobs for a minute. How big are your breasts?
Brooke: My measurements are 34D-24-34.
Savvy: I love a girl who's top-heavy. Most models are stick figures with bug bites on their chests. How long have you been doing this?
Brooke: I’ve been modeling since I was 19. I was shy at first, but as you get used to shooting you have to get comfortable with your body. I do believe you can be sexy without flaunting your body.
Savvy: I guess so, but you flaunt away. People are naturally attracted to you because of your looks, but what kind of people do you gravitate toward?
Brooke: I like kind-hearted people. I hate liars. I like people who are laid back and know who they are and what they want out of life. I like to have fun so I love being around people who love life and embrace life as much as I do. I like people that are honest, trustworthy, confident, motivated, secure, open-minded, fun, positive, caring, and considerate of others’ feelings. There are many other traits, but that's a good start.
Savvy: And when it comes to a guy to share your bed?
Brooke: In men, I like honesty, sincerity, security, ambition, a great sense of humor, a romantic, someone who knows who he is and what he wants out of life.
Savvy: You, baby. You’re all we want. Naked and waiting when we come home from work.
Brooke: (Laughs) Any man I enter into a relationship with, I want to have a "power couple" type of relationship, the kind where together we’re stronger and can accomplish anything together. I believe relationships are supposed to help you to be better, not hurt you.
Savvy: Why did you enter Savvy’s “Is She Hot?” contest?
Brooke: I feel that appearing in Savvy will give me great exposure. I appreciate everyone for supporting me.
Savvy: Any advice for the girls who are still in the contest or maybe out there looking at you as a role model?
Brooke: Have the strength of your own convictions. Be confident in yourself no matter what, and never give up on your goals and dreams.
Savvy: Someone ought to put that on a poster. What’s something about you that only your friends know?
Brooke: My nickname is Brooklyn. Or Bookens.
Savvy: Brooklyn, how do stay in such great shape?
Brooke: I walk or run a mile or two on the treadmill every day. I lift weights, and do ab exercises, and I really like the elliptical machine.
Savvy: What do you wear to bed? Are you “Good Brooke” or “Bad Brooke” in the mornings?
Brooke: I wear a t-shirt and panties to bed. Sometimes I’m perky in the morning and sometimes it’s just one of those mornings.
Savvy: Nobody’s perfect, so what is your biggest flaw?
Brooke: Sometimes I'm too honest.
Savvy: Do you party? Are you a rebel with a cause?
Brooke: I have a little bit of a rebellious side. I go out with my friends when I can, but I am busy with school and modeling most of the time.
Savvy: Are you into sports?
Brooke: I’m a Dallas Cowboy fan and a Texas fan.
Savvy: Oh yeah, it must have been fun watching them hand it to USC in the Rose Bowl. You'd make a great Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Aside from stadium food, what do you like to eat?
Brooke: I love Chinese food and going to Starbucks. My favorite is sushi and chi tea from Starbucks. Do you eat sushi?
Savvy: Never tried it.
Brooke: You ought to.
Savvy: Okay, okay. The pretty girl twists my arm. Not really. (Laughs) I know there are a lot of perks that come to being a hot blonde, but have you ever wished you were a dude?
Brooke: Society still holds a double standard that, at times, is still problematic. However, I was raised to believe I can be anything I want to be or do anything I want to do.
Savvy: What’s something that men “just don’t get” about women and what you go through?
Brooke: I don’t think men are as emotional as women, and therefore, it’s harder for them to understand our complexity.
Savvy: Women are definitely complex. Why do women seem to fall for guys who treat them indifferently or even badly? Do women say they want one thing – a nice guy – when they actually become attracted to men who are more likely to take them for granted and cheat and lie to them?
Brooke: I see this happen to many women, but this statement isn’t true for all of us.
Savvy: Have you ever used your looks or flirted to get your way or get out of trouble?
Brooke: Never intentionally.
Savvy: Have you ever been completely or partially naked in public?
Brooke: Never on purpose, but I’ve lost my suits a few times diving into pools.
Savvy: Care for a quick swim? (Laughs) What was the weirdest or funniest blind date you've ever had?
Brooke: One of my dates tried to jump my fence, and my normally gentle dog ferociously attacked him.
Savvy: Do you find that you relate better to men than women or vice versa? Are your friends mostly guys or females?
Brooke: Right now, it is probably 50/50. I can relate better to men, generally speaking. I still have several girlfriends that I can totally relate to.
Savvy: I bet they're hot too. You girls can be intimidating. How should a guy react if a girl rejects him?
Brooke: Move on. There are many other girls out there, no big deal!
Savvy: I’d be too scared to approach you in “Bad Brooke” mode. I imagine her rolling her eyes before I even talk to her. What should a guy do to build his confidence with women?
Brooke: Realize all the good qualities he has to offer and continue to believe in himself regardless of rejection.
Savvy: What does a guy need to do on a first date to get a second date with you?
Brooke: You should know by the first date if you are going to click with a person or not. A guy should just be himself.
Savvy: Have you ever put yourself out there to face rejection from a guy?
Brooke: I typically let guys ask me out.
Savvy: Has a guy ever treated you like a trophy, showing you off to his friends or his old girlfriends?
Brooke: Yes!! It’s not difficult to tell when this is happening, and I personally don’t care for it.
Savvy: Are you high-maintenance or low-maintenance?
Brooke: High maintenance. What can I say? I gotta be honest.
Savvy: Complete this sentence: When I want to feel really sexy, I…
Brooke: Take a hot bubble bath.
Savvy: Is there room for two? (Laughs) What’s the best music for sex?
Brooke: It depends who you’re with.
Savvy: When it comes to sex, are you more old-fashioned or more open-minded?
Brooke: Wouldn’t you like to know?! (Laughs) I should leave a little mystery for the right person!
Savvy: Well, tell me this at least. How can guys improve at sex?
Brooke: Men, don’t be selfish in bed!
Savvy: A man would be a fool to rush through you.
